Captive Senior Accountant

The ideal candidate will assist with the work cross-functionally with management in Insurance Accounting, Program Management, Underwriting and Client Services to review monthly results, analyze loss reserves, and implement program changes. This position will help partner with our Global teams and provide them with accounting guidance and reporting in support of their programs related to insurance and extended service contracts. The candidate will be involved in month end close processes to prepare monthly client reporting, journal entries and general ledger reconciliations. This position will assist in providing captive information for both external and internal audits. This position will also identify process improvements and build mechanisms to ensure accuracy.

JOB DUTIES:

• Prepare Monthly Client Reporting and Analytical Schedules including underwriter reporting

• Prepare and interpret reinsurance financial results for multiple domestic and international clients

• Review claims forecast and loss development patterns to ensure adequate reserves are maintained

• Maintain Operational Results Templates and prepare journal entries for Domestic and International Captives

• Prepare and Review General Ledger reconciliations

• Enhance the documentation of key internal controls and procedures.

• Prepare monthly GAAP and Statutory reporting for both Domestic and International Captives

• Identify best practices and create ideas for process improvements.

• Assist external and internal auditors with providing schedules required for various audits of financials and reporting

• Support Program Management/Client Services with Ad-hoc projects and inquiries

• Enhance process efficiency and accuracy through automation

• Participate in ad hoc projects concerning finance activities

• Performs ad hoc activities and tasks as required

• General accounting skills and knowledge of GAAP

• Excellent communication skills - ability to communicate at all levels

• Systems aptitude and proficiency in Excel, Access, and financial software

• Skilled in data mining and working with large volumes of data

• Ability to work in a fast-paced, demanding, constantly changing environment

• Strong interpersonal skills, effective verbal and written communications

• Strong attention to detail with large numbers and complex data sets.

• Knowledge or have background in internal controls and Insurance Accounting Standard

• Intermediate to Advance computer skills including common business applications such as MS Windows and MS Office including Excel and Word

• Some experience with statistics and manipulating large data sets.

• Positive, self-directed individual with a strong desire and ability to manage change and process improvement as the business grows

• Advocates a culture of compliance with policies and controls

• Looks for opportunities for continuous improvement in accounting processes and controls, willing to challenge the ‘status quo’
  
  

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or related field

• Professional Qualification such as CPA, CA is a plus (an equivalent combination of related education, training, and experience may be considered)

• CPA designation or actively pursuing certification is a plus.

• Proven track record of academic and professional excellence.

• 4-5 years’ experience in a similar role

• General accounting skills and knowledge of GAAP

• Proven ability to work well with external and internal customers
